Transition in Guinea Comes to an End: Mamadi Doumbouya Officially Sworn In as President

Doumbouya took the oath on Saturday, becoming the first president of the fifth republic. He will serve a seven-year term.

“I, Mamadi Doumbouya, elected President of the Republic, swear […] to uphold peace, social cohesion, and national unity at all times and in all places; and to defend the institutions of the republic, the territorial integrity, and national independence,” he stated at the ceremony.

With his taking the oath of office, the transitional period that operated before the formation of constitutional institutions has officially ended.

Doumbouya came to power as a transitional leader in 2021 as a result of a coup, which ousted ex-President Alpha Condé.
