Uganda Police Deny Opposition Leader's Arrest as Election Results Show Museveni Lead
Ugandan opposition leader and musician-turned-politician Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, remains free at his home, National police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke told a televised news conference.
The announcement comes as official results from Thursday's election show President Yoweri Museveni leading with nearly 72% of the vote, with Bobi Wine trailing at 24%.
Bobi Wine’s party, the National Unity Platform (NUP), had claimed he was taken by soldiers from his compound.
The election was held under an internet blackout, with the voting day itself reported as peaceful following a campaign period marked by rallies.
