BRICS Naval Exercise Shows Global Security Will No Longer Be Shaped by Just a Few Powers: Expert
This exercise demonstrates that emerging countries are now actively shaping international security discussions rather than merely responding passively, Bethelhem Fikru, Programmes Manager at Horn Review and international relations expert, told Sputnik Africa.
“BRICS provides a platform for learning from diverse countries and for avoiding excessive dependence on any single actor. This shows that Ethiopia can safeguard its independence and make better-informed decisions. BRICS is no longer just about economics. At present, it is also becoming a platform for political and security cooperation.”
Regarding Ethiopia’s participation in the exercise, Bethelhem Fikru explained that the country is aligning its thinking with current security realities.
“It offers an opportunity to listen, learn, and understand how decisions on maritime security are made. This kind of quiet participation is often more effective than loud political reactions. It demonstrates self-confidence and maturity in maritime affairs in foreign policy.”
