Exceptionally Rare Blue Diamond Naturally Shaped Like Africa Mined Near Pretoria, Says Mining Firm
The diamond, weighing 41.82 carats, has been extracted from the Cullinan mine, located about 40 kilometers east of Pretoria, South Africa, according to mining group Petra Diamonds.
The gem, which is expected to fetch up to $40 million at auction, is of exceptional quality, both in its color and clarity, the company noted.
It is classified as a Type IIb diamond, a category that accounts for less than one-tenth of one percent of all natural diamonds and is among the rarest found in nature, according to the miner.
