Russia Welcomes Successful Uganda General Elections, Pledges Stronger Ties: Foreign Ministry
Moscow reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening traditionally friendly bilateral relations with Uganda, according to a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Observers from the African and international communities, including Russia, characterized the voting process as generally organized and calm, the ministry noted.
International observers confirmed the absence of serious violations that could have affected the outcome, the ministry added.
On January 15, eight presidential candidates, including the incumbent, Yoweri Museveni, competed to Uganda's top office. Over 21.6 million registered voters were set to elect both a president and members of parliament.
