Africa Must Stop Being Merely Supplier of Raw Materials, Says Cameroonian Expert
Africa's mining potential is "immense," with the continent holding significant reserves of critical metals such as lithium, cobalt, and rare earth elements, Dupleix Fernand Kuenzob, a mining sector expert and former member of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, told Sputnik Africa.
"African countries must learn to create value chains by ceasing to export products in their raw state. They must aim for added value, relying on sound governance and solid partnerships."
According to the Cameroonian expert, one strong incentive would be the imposition of restrictions on raw exports to compel local industrialization.
To maximize profits, he also calls for addressing several key challenges, including:
Poor governance that encourages capital flight
Infrastructure deficits
Shortages of technical skills
