Double the New Year, Double the Joy in Bangui: Russian House Celebrates Old New Year

The Old New Year was celebrated at the Russian House in Bangui with warmth, laughter, and plenty of energy. Students of the Russian House were joined by children from the national association Future for Children, which supports orphans and youngsters facing difficult life situations.

The evening blended traditions beautifully — heartfelt and cozy in a Russian way, vibrant and rhythmic in an African way — turning the celebration into a truly unforgettable moment of shared joy.

ℹ The Old New Year is a traditional Russian celebration on January 13–14. It exists because Russia once followed the Julian calendar, which is 13 days behind the modern calendar. This gave rise to a second New Year, now celebrated as a warm, informal holiday.
