One of Key Components Delivered for Egypt’s First NPP: Russia's Rosatom
The bridge of the polar crane for El Dabaa's first power unit has arrived on site, the Russian state nuclear agency reported.
ℹ The polar crane is a massive circular overhead crane installed inside the reactor building, directly under the inner protective dome.
It plays a vital role throughout the entire life cycle of the plant, from construction and equipment installation to routine maintenance and fuel handling, allowing extremely heavy components to be lifted and positioned with high precision.
The crane is called “polar” because it moves along a circular path around the center of the reactor, rotating around a fixed central point — much like movement around a pole. Its bridge is the largest and heaviest element of the crane, weighing more than 220 tonnes.
The arrival of this component marks an important step forward, as it enables the next stages of installation inside the reactor building and brings the El Dabaa project closer to full operation.
