The decision, announced by the Council of Ministers, was described as a move to protect the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national unity. It directly affects agreements involving the ports of Berbera, Bosaso, and Kismayo, as well as cooperation between the UAE and Somalia’s federal institutions and member states.
Somali authorities accused the UAE of carrying out hostile and destabilizing actions that they say undermine Somalia’s independence and political stability. The government said these actions violate international principles of sovereignty and non-interference recognized by the United Nations, African Union, Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the League of Arab States.
Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs will formally notify the UAE of the decision and brief regional and international partners. The government emphasized that it remains open to cooperation with any country that respects Somalia’s sovereignty and follows constitutional and international law.
There has been no official response from the UAE yet.
