Sudanese Government Moves Back to Khartoum After Over 2 Years of War
“Today we return, and with us returns a government of hope to the national capital,” Prime Minister Kamel Idris noted, speaking at Port Sudan, which has served as a de-facto capital due to hostilities in Khartoum.
The government submitted the 2026 budget without new public burdens, aiming to cut inflation to 70%, the minister stressed.
“We promise improved services and a better life for our people," he added.
Since the RSF rebels began fighting in April 2023 over unifying the military establishment, Sudan’s humanitarian crisis has deepened, with tens of thousands killed and millions displaced.
