Commenting to Sputnik Africa on President Paul Biya’s recent speech highlighting the advantages of multilateralism, Yamb Ntimba Dominique argued that this approach offers limited strategic benefits for countries like Cameroon, stressing the distinction between multilateralism and multipolarity.
According to him, multilateralism was largely conceived by the US and served as a “Trojan horse” to placate a number of countries. Today, he said, this discourse has become outdated.
"The example of the BRICS, within the framework of multilateralism, is encouraging and more interesting. But the BRICS tend to talk about a multipolar world, not a multilateral one."
The analyst also observed that the US has chosen to act in unilateral fashion, adding that such behavior is unlikely to be constrained by speeches advocating multilateralism.
"You will stop them by building power that will counter their power," concluded Ntimba.
