Togo Imposes Export Tax to Boost Local Processing of Soybeans, Cashews & Shea
The measure, implemented on January 1, aims to limit the export of raw products and encourage their local processing to create more added value within the country, according to local media.
The initiative follows on from actions undertaken since 2018 to revitalize strategic agricultural sectors, particularly cashew and shea nuts.
The tariffs, set between $0.0017 and $0.17 per kilogram, are intended to incentivize economic actors to invest in processing facilities.
In addition to strengthening industrialization and employment, the tax contributes to diversifying tax revenues and consolidating Togo's economic sovereignty, media said.
