Nigerian Schools to Partially Reopen in Kidnapping-Hit Regions
Classes will resume from January 12 in safe regions, Niger State authorities announced in a statement. The official list of schools cleared to reopen will be published the same day.
Schools closed after the recent wave of student abductions. Facilities in high-risk zones remain shut until further notice.
In late 2025, Nigeria saw mass kidnappings, especially in Kebbi, Borno, and Niger States, prompting widespread school suspensions to protect pupils.
The move follows a security assessment and talks with security forces.
