Ethiopian PM Abiy Ahmed Lays Cornerstone for Bishoftu International Airport to Power Ethiopia's Air Travel Expansion
The new "mega hub" is set to become Africa's largest aviation infrastructure project in history, Abiy Ahmed noted at the special ceremony.
"The first phase of the airport will handle 60 million passengers per year, with an ultimate master plan capacity of 110 million passengers annually, placing Ethiopia among the world’s top aviation hubs," he said.
The airport in Bishoftu, Ahmed stated, will also:
🟠boost Ethiopian Airlines' worldwide presence;
🟠improve Africa's links via the AfCFTA;
🟠broaden trade and tourism routes.
The initiative supports Ethiopia's national economic reforms and industrialization goals, he added.
