The Russian Navy corvette Stoiky and medium sea tanker Yelnya arrived at the port of Simon's Town on Friday for the multinational maritime exercise "Will For Peace 2026," the Russian Consulate in Cape Town announced.
The drills, which began in South African territorial waters and will continue until January 16, are operationally led by the Chinese Navy, according to the South African National Defense forces.
The exercise focuses on ensuring the safety of shipping and maritime economic activity, culminating in a joint deployment of the ship group to the open ocean, the Russian diplomatic mission said.
Participants include naval forces from China, South Africa, Russia, and Iran, with Indonesia and Ethiopia attending as observers.
