Somalia Denies US Accusations of Seizing Food Aid, Says US Aid Pause Based on 'Misunderstanding': MFA
The Somali government rejects US allegations that it seized humanitarian aid, the foreign ministry announced, clarifying that a World Food Program (WFP) warehouse remains under the UN agency's full control.
"The WFP warehouse in question is located within the Mogadishu Port area, where ongoing expansion and repurposing works are underway," the ministry said, adding that these operations have not disrupted aid custody or distribution.
The facility is located inside Mogadishu Port, where ongoing expansion work has not disrupted aid custody or distribution.
The government is reviewing the matter through a technical committee with humanitarian partners and remains committed to transparency with all international donors, including the US, the ministry noted.
The response comes after the US State Department announced a pause on all assistance to Somalia's federal government. Washington alleged that local officials destroyed a WFP warehouse and diverted 76 tonnes of food.
