US attempts to intercept Russian oil tanker in the Atlantic Ocean

The Russian company BurevestMarin reported an attempted US interception of the tanker Marinera in the North Atlantic.

Despite the captain's efforts to demonstrate that the vessel was carrying no cargo and was a civilian ship, it was pursued by US Navy P-8A Poseidon drones.

Earlier this week, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Moscow was closely monitoring the abnormal situation surrounding the Russian oil tanker Marinera, which was in international waters of the North Atlantic under the Russian flag and in full compliance with international maritime law.

"For reasons unclear to us, the Russian ship is being given increased and clearly disproportionate attention by the US and NATO military, despite its peaceful status,"the ministry emphasized.

Russia expects Western countries, which declare their commitment to freedom of navigation in international waters, to adhere to this principle themselves, the ministry said.
