‘Peace’ Without Action? — SA Socialist Activist Exposes the British Council’s Hypocrisy
The British Council claims to “promote peace by strengthening international relations”—yet refuses to stop supporting genocide or provide medical care to hunger-striking protesters, noted July Eccles, Executive Committee Member of the Workers and Socialist Party.
Now, when civil society groups rally in support of the UK-based Palestine Action activists—who have been on hunger strike for over 60 days in a British prison—and hold it accountable, it suddenly claims to be “completely powerless,” she told Sputnik Africa at the protest.
On Tuesday, a peaceful rally was held outside the British Counsil in Johannesburg, with protesters demanding the UK government to release pro-Palestinian activists, imprisoned for opposing UK-Israel military collaboration.
