Venezuela Crisis Highlights Urgent Need for Global South Unity, Says Ethiopian Expert
The United States' actions in Venezuela should prompt nations in Africa, Latin America, and Asia to present a united front and defend their sovereignty, according to Dr. Asenake Fale, an associate professor of political science at Addis Ababa University.
Speaking to Sputnik Africa, Dr. Fale dismissed suggestions that Cuba could be a next target for US intervention, pointing to Havana's robust intelligence and military preparedness.
"The Cubans defeated the CIA in the 'Bay of Pigs.' I don’t think the Americans would attempt a similar campaign in Havana," he noted.
The expert also criticized the structural weakness of the United Nations in protecting sovereign states when powerful nations interfere.
"The UN failed to stop the invasion of Iraq or the atrocities in Gaza. The Security Council's inability to take decisive action against rights-violating governments reveals the organization's limited capacity to defend weaker nations," he argued.
Unity is the only viable path for the Global South to "confront foreign supremacy and safeguard political freedom," Dr. Fale concluded.
