The day before, Yemeni separatists reportedly backed by the UAE declared war on forces supported by Saudi Arabia.
In early December, the separatists seized control of the eastern provinces of Hadramawt and Mahra.
Key provisions of the document include:
The State of South Arabia is declared an independent and fully sovereign state, with Aden as its capital.
The state’s borders correspond to the internationally recognized boundaries of the former People’s Democratic Republic of Yemen.
South Arabia is part of the Arab and Islamic world, with Arabic as its official language.
Islam is designated as the state religion, and Islamic Sharia law is established as the primary source of legislation.
A two-year transition period has been established to fulfill legal obligations and implement state institutions.
Other political forces in Yemen, as well as the internationally recognized Yemeni authorities, have yet to respond to the initiative.
