Mali Ratifies $64 Million Financing to Secure Electricity in Bamako
Provided by the Islamic Development Bank, the funds are dedicated to the construction of the Northern Loop, a 225 kV piece of power infrastructure designed to encircle and stabilize the electricity grid of the metropolitan area.
The objectives are:
🟠to modernize infrastructure to limit outages and technical losses,
🟠to integrate competitive energy from the Senegal River Basin Development Authority and regional interconnections.
The loop is a pillar of Mali's energy sovereignty strategy. It will enable the distribution of more stable and less expensive electricity to households and businesses, thus addressing a top priority for the government.
The ratification by the Council of Ministers now allows the project to move to the operational phase.
