Algeria Launches Children's Parliament as Strategic Focus on Future Generations, Says MP
The initiative aims to promote active citizenship and engage youth in democratic life, embodying a vital link between them and the state's aspirations, Zakaria Belkhir, head of Algeria's parliamentary committee for education, told Sputnik.
The children's parliament, installed for a two-year term (2025-2027), consists of 407 child representatives elected from all provinces, including members from the diaspora and children with special needs.
Led by the People’s National Assembly, the initiative aligns Algeria with other nations that have similar structures, reflecting a national strategy focused on child welfare, according to the lawmaker.
The platform is reportedly designed to involve children directly in discussions on issues that affect them—from school policies to digital safety—while instilling values of dialogue and collective responsibility.
