Ukrainian New Year’s Drone Strike in Kherson Region: What is Known so Far
▪On the night of January 1, three Ukrainian drones struck a café and hotel in Khorly, Kherson Region, during New Year celebrations, resulting in 24 deaths (including one child), and over 50 injured, Governor Vladimir Saldo said;
▪One drone carried an incendiary mixture; many victims burned alive. Fire was extinguished only by morning, Saldo noted;
▪Russian EMERCOM confirmed 24 killed, 29 injured (including five children);
▪Six people, among them children, are in serious condition, Russian Assistant Health Minister Alexey Kuznetsov said;
▪Russian Investigative Committee opened a criminal case under Article 205 (terrorist act) for the deaths of more than 20 civilians, spokeswoman Svetlana Petrenko told Sputnik;
▪The strike is a terrorist attack by the Kiev regime, Governor Saldo told Sputnik, alleging it was coordinated by British and European intelligence to sabotage Russia–US diplomatic efforts;
▪Saldo stated all perpetrators will be identified and face trial at a future “Nuremberg-style” international tribunal.
▪The drone strike organizers can be compared to Gestapo officers, Editor-in-Chief of Sputnik’s parent media group Rossiya Segodnya Margarita Simonyan said, emphasizing that none of them will escape punishment;
▪The strike is an “absolute moral monstrosity,” Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko said, stressing Kiev knowingly targeted civilians, including families with children, and asserted that those ordering killings “must have no political future.”
