Sudan's Gold Production Hits Five-Year High Amid Economic Challenges, Says State Company
The country's gold output reached 70 tonnes this year, exceeding annual targets by 113%, the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company (SMRC), the regulatory arm of the country's Ministry of Minerals, announced in a statement.
The surge provided a crucial economic boost, generating over $426 million in public revenue, the SMRC said, praising the mining sector’s resilience despite ongoing national challenges.
The increase in gold output, which has become Sudan's primary source of foreign currency, was attributed to resolving past export hurdles and adopting more flexible policies with producers.
Looking ahead, authorities plan to focus on digitalization, stronger regulation, and attracting larger investments, according to the state company.
Emphasis was also placed on supporting artisanal miners, who contribute over 85% of total production, by simplifying import and customs procedures to reduce smuggling and maximize economic returns.
