Niger Adopts AES Biometric National Identity Card
🪪 Niger has introduced a secure, multifunctional electronic smart card, harmonized with the standards of the AES Confederation.
The measure aims to:
🟠Facilitate the free movement of people within the confederation;
🟠Strengthen regional integration;
🟠Provide a modern and reliable identity document.
The card is now mandatory for all Nigerien citizens aged 15 and above.
The decree establishing the card was adopted on Friday by the Nigerien Council of Ministers. It outlines the procedures for issuing the card and specifies penalties for non-compliance.
