Somaliland and Israel Establish Diplomatic Relations
The Republic of Somaliland and the State of Israel have announced the signing of an Agreement of Mutual Recognition and the establishment of diplomatic relations, according to a statement released in Hargeisa.
The agreement formally recognizes Somaliland as a sovereign and independent state.
Somaliland described the development as a contribution to peace, stability, and cooperation in the Horn of Africa and the wider Middle East. It also expressed its intention to accede to the Abraham Accords, highlighting a commitment to regional dialogue, cooperation, and mutual prosperity.
The two sides plan to engage across areas of mutual interest, including peace and security, trade and investment, development, innovation, and regional connectivity.
Somaliland reaffirmed its foreign policy principles of constructive dialogue, respect for international law, and regional cooperation, and reiterated its openness to maintaining constructive relations with neighboring states, including the Federal Republic of Somalia.
