New Gold Processing Plant for Tanzanian Miners: Game-Changer for Productivity and Profitability
President Samia Suluhu Hassan has instructed the creation of a gold processing plant in Mwakitolyo to address key challenges faced by small-scale miners, especially limited processing capacity.
Key details:
Gold Processing Plant: The new Carbon-in-Pulp plant will have a daily capacity of 100-120 tonnes, supporting over 7,900 miners in Mwakitolyo and nearby areas. It will improve gold recovery and miners' incomes.
Support for Miners:
🟠Drilling Rigs: 15 rigs have been procured. A rig capable of drilling up to 400 meters will be deployed to Mwakitolyo.
🟠Subsidized Geological Services: The cost of drilling will be reduced by ~58%, helping miners make informed decisions.
Licensing Reforms: Mavunde announced efforts to clean up the mining license system by removing non-performing license holders and revoking idle exploration licenses.
Gender and Youth Inclusion: The government is prioritizing women and youth miners with equipment and opportunities for better productivity.
Technical Service Agreements: Regulations around foreign control in small-scale mining licenses have been clarified to ensure fairness.
The government is focused on transforming small-scale mining into a structured and profitable industry that supports sustainable development and boosts local economies. Authorities are also working to resolve boundary disputes and review levies to improve miners’ productivity.
