True Reparations for Africa Require Dismantling Neocolonial Systems, Not Just Money: Nigerian Activist
True reparatory justice for the African continent demands a complete decolonization of global systems and thought, Oladele Dosunmu, founder of The Alkebulan Innovative Foundation in Nigeria, told Sputnik Africa.
Recognized for his work in defense of African sovereignty, Dosunmu described reparations as "multidimensional," requiring spiritual and psychological healing, material and financial redress, land restitution, educational reform, and the decolonization of thought processes.
"The systems that hold Africa together are still colonial," Dosunmu stated, criticizing international institutions like the IMF and World Bank for upholding neocolonial economic structures.
Hegemonic powers are unwilling to enact real change, he emphasized, noting their refusal to apologize, return stolen artifacts, or relinquish structural advantages.
"If they're talking about reparative justice, what these countries should be doing is basically stopping the systems that's still giving them an advantage over us," he concluded, asserting that justice requires an equity-based restructuring of global political and financial systems.
