UNSC Extends AUSSOM’s Mandate for Another Year
The UN Security Council has unanimously approved the extension of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia until December 31, 2026, with the continued deployment of 11,826 personnel.
The resolution also calls for donor support to help address the ongoing threat from the Al-Shabaab* terrorist group.
ℹ AUSSOM, which began in January 2025, aims to stabilize Somalia and transition full security responsibilities to Somali forces by 2029.
