Majority of Africans Support Reparations Demands, Survey Reveals
A resounding 70.3% of respondents across Africa and the diaspora expressed strong support for demanding reparations from former colonial powers in a recent survey conducted by the Pan-African Progressive Front.
The survey, which involved 1,861 participants from 57 countries, reflects widespread backing for a reparations justice fund and the imposition of tariffs on goods from colonizing nations to ensure systematic, gradual compensation.
Key findings of the survey include:
🟠70.3% of Africans believe that former colonizers must pay reparations for their crimes.
🟠75.8% support the creation of a single reparations justice fund, to be managed transparently across the continent.
🟠81.2% advocate for reparations to be calculated centrally by all affected African nations, considering the Caribbean diaspora.
🟠65.8% endorse the idea of a voluntary levy on transactions from colonial countries' companies, as a way to generate reparations without disrupting trade.
The survey also highlighted that the US (96%), UK (82.6%), and France (71.9%) were the most frequently named countries responsible for colonial injustices, with respondents calling for these nations to be held accountable first.
