'Unity is Sacred': President Mnangagwa Reaffirms Zimbabwe’s Unbreakable Bond

As the country marks the 38th anniversary of Unity Day, President Mnangagwa reaffirmed a powerful truth: unity is the nation’s greatest strength—and it is non-negotiable.

Addressing the nation, the president warned against divisions that “breed hatred and disharmony,” stressing that no force can fracture Zimbabwe’s collective resolve.

“Our national unity is sacred. This day must see us all, re-commit ourselves to guarding, preserving and promoting this critical pillar of our nationhood,” he said.

Reflecting on the historic Unity Accord of December 22, 1987—signed by former President Robert Gabriel Mugabe and Vice President Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo—the president described it as a lasting foundation for peace, progress and development.

“Inspired by the spirit of that Accord, we are all working together as one indivisible nation,” he said.

From economic transformation under National Development Strategy 1 and the launch of National Development Strategy 2, to record agricultural output, growing mining production, expanding manufacturing and rising tourist arrivals, the president linked national gains to peace and stability.

“Such notable advancements… have all been possible as a result of the prevailing unity, peace and stability which our country is enjoying,” he said.
