Kenyan President Pledges Cultural Center at UNESCO Site to Preserve Luo Heritage
During a visit to conclude the 5th Piny Luo festival in Migori County, William Ruto announced a government plan to build a Sh50 million (approximately $390,000) cultural center at the Thimlich Ohinga archaeological site, according to the Kenya News Agency.
The 16th-century stone-walled settlement, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site, will reportedly house the new center aimed at preserving and promoting the culture and traditions of the Luo community.
Ruto framed the investment as part of a mission to correct historical development injustices in the Nyanza region and across Kenya, the report noted.
The president's engagement at the festival, which included the inauguration of new hostel units at Rongo University, reportedly aligns with broader regional development promises.
