Russia Grateful to Egypt for Its Position on Ukraine: Lavrov

Russian FM met with Badr Abdelatty, the FM of Egypt, on the sidelines of the Ministerial Conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum in Cairo.

The following points were discussed during the negotiations:

🟠 Ukrainian Conflict: Russia values Egypt for its understanding of the need to resolve the Ukrainian conflict, taking into account its root causes, said Russian FM Sergey Lavrov.

🟠 Accelerating Joint Projects: Russia and Egypt have agreed to speed up the implementation of joint strategic projects, especially in the energy sector, including cooperation on Russia-built nuclear infrastructure.

The El Dabaa - Egypt’s first Nuclear Power Plant being constructed with significant Russian involvement - continues to be a flagship project in their energy partnership, with financing arrangements evolving to align with its timeline.

🟠 Coordination on Syria: Russia and Egypt reaffirmed their commitment to coordinate efforts to preserve the unity and stability of Syria, stressing the importance of sovereignty and a political process that respects territorial integrity.

🟠 Expanding Air Links: Plans to expand air connectivity between Russia and Egypt were also underscored, with discussions focusing on enhancing travel links, particularly between Russian cities and Egyptian resort destinations, boosting tourism and people-to-people ties.

🟠 Israeli-Palestinian Conflict: Egypt highly appreciates Russia’s principled position on achieving a just resolution to the Palestinian issue. Cairo has been actively involved in diplomatic efforts regarding Gaza and broader peace initiatives, which remains a key area of cooperation.
