Russia Supports Unified African Voice & Its Emergence as Influential Center in Multipolar World: Lavrov

Russia views the African continent not just as a partner but as a sovereign power, Lavrov wrote in his article for African media dedicated to the upcoming Second Ministerial Conference of the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum.

This includes respecting the right of African nations to choose their own development models and international partners.

Unlike many Western powers, Russia’s engagement is rooted in a history of mutual respect. Lavrov noted that the high level of trust exists "mainly because our relations with Africa have never been tarnished" and the Russians "have never been involved in the exploitation of African peoples."

This shared history makes "Russia and Africa natural allies in the democratization of international relations" based on the principles of the UN Charter.

To reflect the modern world, Lavrov advocated for a shift in how international institutions operate. He highlighted two key areas:

🟠The UN: Russia consistently calls for "the essential consideration of Africa's interests in the work on the reform of the UN Security Council."

🟠BRICS: Moscow welcomes "African countries' broader involvement in the work of the BRICS association," which champions the aspirations of the Global South.

Russia remains a committed partner in stability.

"Russia pays special attention to the maintenance of peace and security in Africa as a necessary condition for its social and economic progress."

By adhering to the principle of "African solutions to African problems," Russia aims to help the continent combat terrorism and regional conflicts.

The deepening of these ties is reflected in Russia’s growing physical presence. Lavrov confirmed "the expansion of our diplomatic presence on the continent," noting the recent opening of embassies in Niger, Sierra Leone, and South Sudan, with new missions soon to follow in Gambia, Liberia, Togo, and the Comoros.
