After Decolonization, Africans Face New Struggle for Sovereignty in 'All Areas of Their Life' — and Russia 'Fully' Supports It, Says Lavrov

Russian FM Sergey Lavrov highlighted the deep roots of Russia–Africa relations in his article for African media dedicated to the upcoming Second Ministerial Conference of the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum.

He recalled that African nations remember the Soviet Union’s "selfless" support in breaking free from colonial dependence, including its key role in adopting the UN Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples and helping build national economies, education, and healthcare systems.

There was a noticeable slowdown in the relations at the turn of the millennium. However, the "end of history" did not happen, and today is the new heyday of the Russian–African friendship. Russia appreciates that Africa is reawakening.

He emphasized that Russia consistently advocates at the UN and other international platforms for eliminating modern forms of neocolonialism.
