Angolan Government Denies Congo's Request to Deploy Forces in DRC Southeast: Reports
Angola will not send troops to secure the Congolese Greater Katanga region, an Angolan news outlet reported.
Angolan President João Lourenço advised DRC President Félix Tshisekedi to initiate dialogue with concerned parties to address the root causes of the current crisis in eastern DRC, rather than deploying forces, it added.
Over the weekend, Tshisekedi visited Angola, met Lourenço, and requested aid securing border provinces Upper Katanga and Lualaba in Greater Katanga.
DRC leadership reportedly fears that M23 rebels could launch a southward offensive toward Katanga from South Kivu province, which they have partially captured.
