AfDB Secures Record $11 Billion for 17th Replenishment of African Development Fund—Highest in 50-Year History
Forty-three partners pledged to this total, reflecting a 23% increase over the previous replenishment, despite a global trend of declining international aid, the African Development Bank said.
According to the bank, the package includes expected contributions from the OPEC Fund for International Development and the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa, as well as $182.7 million pledged by 23 African countries, 19 of which are first-time contributors to the fund’s concessional lending window.
“This is a turning point. In one of the most challenging global environments for development financing, our partners have chosen ambition over spending cuts and investment over inaction,” AfDB President Sidi Ould Tah said.
