This artifact belonged to Empress Tiruwork Wube, the second wife of Emperor Tewodros II (1818–1868), and is still preserved in its original velvet presentation box. For over 150 years, the item has been held in private collections.

After arriving in Ethiopia, the hairpin will be exhibited in the National Museum of Ethiopia in Addis Ababa, alongside the recently repatriated shield from the 1868 Battle of Magdala.
