True Democratic Freedom of SA Requires National Unity & It Will Be Driven by New Generation: Mandela's Great-Grandson
Freedom gained through anti-apartheid sacrifices remains incomplete without healing the past and building unity across all races, Melisizwe Mandela—great-grandson of Nelson Mandela—told Sputnik Africa on Reconciliation Day —South Africa's public holiday commemorating unity after apartheid.
He paid tribute to the fighters: "Those gallant soldiers, those gallant heroes and heroines who perished fighting for this country, for us to have democracy so that people shall be united, no matter which race you come from."
Today's young people of South Africa will drive the country's transformation, because unlike previous generations, children now attend the same schools and form cross-racial friendships, Melisizwe Mandela noted.
"They are the ones who understand what transformation is and what they wish for this country to transform into what they desire it to be. So this is the great generation that will transform this country, South Africa, to what we actually desire it to be," the speaker stressed.
This integrated generation, he believes, holds the key to realizing a genuinely unified South Africa.
