Chaos Erupts in SA's KwaZulu-Natal Parliament After Failed No-Confidence Vote, Reports Say

The KwaZulu-Natal provincial legislature held a vote on a no-confidence motion against Premier Thami Ntuli, leader of the ruling coalition—but the motion failed to pass, local media reported.

Opposition lawmakers from the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP), which holds 37 of 80 seats and initiated the vote, stormed toward the speaker, shoved, gesticulated aggressively, and threw objects, according to SABC’s live broadcast.

Police intervened to disperse MKP deputies, while party supporters took to the streets in protest.

MKP had accused the ruling coalition of mismanaging provincial finances—and a successful vote could have handed them power in the key province, according to reports.
