Ethiopian Hospital Saves New Mother by Removing 19-Kg Uterine Tumor

A 28-year-old woman living in a rural area was found to have a tumor during surgery at Woldiya General Hospital, 30 days after giving birth, when her abdominal pressure failed to decrease.

Postpartum surgeries are typically performed six weeks after pregnancy, but due to the mother's pain, Dr. Juhar Mohammed performed the surgery one month after birth.

"It was so big that it went beyond her navel. This tumor was not expected to twist, but we found that it had twisted twice," he explained.

The medical team attributed the tumor's growth going undetected to a lack of comprehensive prenatal care, as it developed alongside the fetus during pregnancy.

Following the surgery, the mother has fully recovered and is healthy, successfully breastfeeding her newborn, according to local media.
