Zambian Doctors Credit Russian Training in Effort to Reduce Infant Mortality
Russia's Kulakov National Medical Research Center organized a specialized seminar titled "Ways to Reduce Maternal and Infant Mortality" in Lusaka. One of the event's key training tools was "Infant Nikolai," a high-fidelity simulation mannequin used to practice emergency neonatal care.
"Russia has been very instrumental in helping Zambia establish this robust health system," Dr. Mweushi Mfanda, a neurosurgeon and Russian university alumnus, said.
Dr. Selia Ng'anjo, Head of Gynecology at the University Teaching Hospital, shared her learning experience from a visit to Moscow, noting, "This collaboration will really help us to reduce maternal and also infant mortality."
Key details about the event:
🟠The training was supported by the health ministries of both countries and the Russian House in Lusaka;
🟠30 Zambian obstetricians, gynecologists, and neonatologists from across the country took part;
🟠This marked the second consecutive year Russian experts have held such training in Zambia;
🟠Zambian officials highlighted that several doctors received specialized short-term training in Russia in 2024 and 2025 under the partnership.
