It remains unclear whether the detention of Candide Azannaï is linked to the coup attempt foiled by the army on Sunday, as authorities have not yet released an official list of suspects, according to the French media.
Azannaï had condemned the December 7 coup attempt in a social media post published on Wednesday, but he also denounced “sordid maneuvers” aimed at exploiting the crisis to seize power, alleging that such efforts involve silencing dissent and suppressing critical or divergent political voices.
A police source, speaking on condition of anonymity, reportedly provided no details about the reasons for Azannaï’s arrest or his whereabouts.
