'Africa is Good, Promising Continent': Ghanaian Artist Redefines Global Influence

“It's important to the continent because for the longest period in terms of the art discourse and, like, art making, the practice, we were not very much visible in it. And even when we did, it wasn't like when on the world stage; it wasn't very convincing in terms of the kind of positions that they would put us in and all that. I think that now that this [achievement] comes into the foreground, it means that it allows people to pay attention to the craft within the continent, not just the craft but also the intellect that it comes with. And for me, I think that's what is most exciting.”

#PanAfricanFrequency sat down with Ibrahim Mahama, a Ghanaian artist and the first African to ever top ArtReview Magazine's prestigious Power List, to discuss how his transformative art interrogates African history using discarded materials.

Join us in this fascinating discussion as Ibrahim shares his hopes for this recognition to elevate African art on the global scene and the significance of debunking African myths through art.
