Russia–Uganda: First Joint Scientific Expedition to Study Infectious Disease Pathogens Yields New Findings
The expedition brought together specialists from Russia's human welfare watchdog Rospotrebnadzor — including zoologists, entomologists, chemists, and laboratory diagnostics experts — and their Ugandan colleagues.
Together, they carried out extensive fieldwork aimed at understanding the spread of infectious disease pathogens.
During the expedition, the team achieved the following:
🟠Collected and studied more than 1,000 biomaterial samples
🟠Determined the species composition and population levels of carriers of dangerous pathogens
🟠Confirmed the effectiveness of new Russian-made repellent, insecticidal, and rodenticidal agents developed specifically for African conditions
The work was supported by a Russian mobile laboratory complex, donated to Uganda in 2023, which enabled on-site analysis.
The expedition produced new information on the circulation patterns of natural focal infections in Uganda, providing a stronger basis for monitoring and forecasting epidemiological developments in African countries.
