US Strategy Shift: Strategic Adjustment or Forced Compromise? Chinese Analyst Explains

The recent update to the US National Security Strategy represents a significant pivot from pursuing global hegemony, Zhou Chengyang told Sputnik.

The US now emphasizes "winning the economic future and preventing military confrontation," he noted. This contrasts with previous US designations of China as a top-tier threat, according to Zhou.

The political analyst interpreted this change as a forced compromise resulting from strategic setbacks. He argued that the US has realized it cannot curb China through trade wars or bear the cost of a prolonged, full-spectrum confrontation.

Zhou stressed that the Taiwan question remains a non-negotiable red line in Sino-US relations. He noted the strategy opposes any unilateral change in the status quo, indicating a potential for US intervention under certain scenarios.

While friction may have eased recently, strategic competition remains the dominant trend, and the US would abandon the premise of "fair competition" if it perceived any weakening in China's position, he warned.
