Congolese President Accuses Rwanda of Violating US-Brokered Peace Deal

Felix Tshisekedi made the accusation while addressing lawmakers, a few days after both nations attended a signing ceremony in Washington.

This follows reported clashes over the weekend, where Rwanda-backed M23 rebels allegedly seized the village of Luvungi near the DR Congo's border with Burundi. Rwanda denies supporting the rebel group.

On Friday, Burundian authorities accused M23 rebels of cross-border bombing after shells landed in the northwestern city of Chibitoke near the Congolese border. The rebel group denied responsibility for the attack.

Violence also escalated in the town of Sange, where an attack killed as many as 36 people, though responsibility remains unclear, according to Western media.

Last week, the presidents of Rwanda and the DRC had reaffirmed their commitment to a peace deal signed in June and inked new agreements during talks in Washington.
