Nigeria Confirms It Conducted Military Operations in Benin in Response to Sunday Coup Attempt
The forces acted on “on two separate requests from” the Beninese government and under the ECOWAS protocol, the Nigerian presidency stated.
Fighter jets entered Beninese airspace, and a ground force was deployed on the ground.
President Tinubu hailed the Nigerian armed forces for their swift response and professionalism:
“The Nigerian armed forces stood gallantly as a defender and protector of constitutional order in the Republic of Benin on the invitation of the government,” he said.
On Sunday evening, Beninese President Patrice Talon declared the situation was “fully under control.”
