The reputational damage from a corruption scandal surrounding former EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini is “very significant,” and Brussels is aware of its scale, Russian political analyst Tatyana Romanova told Sputnik. This affair has raised a number of questions not only about the EU diplomatic service, but also about the European Commission, whose employees were among those detained, Romanova noted. The European Public Prosecutor's Office earlier announced that Mogherini and two other individuals had been accused of procurement fraud and corruption, conflict of interest, and violation of professional secrecy.

Mogherini Corruption Probe Could Point at Von Der Leyen’s Door: Analyst
20:20 04.12.2025 (Updated: 22:09 04.12.2025) The reputational damage from a corruption scandal surrounding former EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini is “very significant,” and Brussels is aware of its scale, Russian political analyst Tatyana Romanova told Sputnik.
This affair has raised a number of questions not only about the EU diplomatic service, but also about the European Commission, whose employees were among those detained, Romanova noted.
"The scandal is believed to also cast shadow on the European Commission and [its President] Ursula von der Leyen. She, of course, cannot be aware of everything, but detractors clearly link her centralized management to the scandal,” the analyst pointed out.
The European Public Prosecutor's Office earlier announced that Mogherini and two other individuals had been accused of procurement fraud and corruption, conflict of interest, and violation of professional secrecy.
