Russia Condemns Black Sea Tanker Attacks, Accuses Kiev of Escalation and Distraction
Russia’s Foreign Ministry says Kiev organized attacks on tankers Kairos and Virat and struck CPC infrastructure near Novorossiysk. Maria Zakharova called the incidents terrorist acts, adding:
"We strongly condemn the carried-out terrorist attacks and the actions of all parties who facilitated their planning and execution."
She argued that Western sponsors are using the situation to divert Ukrainian public attention from internal scandals, describing efforts to frame the strikes as a symbolic success.
According to Zakharova, the attacks are intended to obstruct peace initiatives:
"We see a direct connection with the attempts to undermine the ongoing international efforts to achieve lasting peace."
She linked the events to actors who previously obstructed settlement dialogue and now, she suggested, seek military escalation.
Zakharova also stated Ukrainian intelligence effectively acknowledged involvement by publishing footage of the strikes.
Her statement concluded with a call for a global response:
"We call on all reasonable circles to condemn the terrorist attacks... and to provide an appropriate assessment of the destructive actions of the Kiev regime and its sponsors."
